My Jesus *

Which Jesus do you follow?
Which Jesus do you serve?
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Why do you look so much like the world?

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the arrogant
So which one do you want to be?

Blessed are the poor in spirit
Or do we pray to be blessed with the wealth of this land
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness
Or do we ache for another taste of this world of shifting sand?

Cause my Jesus bled and died for my sins
He spent His time with thieves and sluts and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the rich
So which one do you want to be?

Who is this that you follow
This picture of the American dream
If Jesus was here would you walk right by on the other side
Or fall down and worship at His holy feet?

Pretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a clear complexion
Is how you see Him as He dies for your sins
But the Word says He was battered and scarred
Or did you miss that part
Sometimes I doubt we’d recognize Him

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and the least of these
He loved the poor and accosted the comfortable
So which one do you want to be?

Cause my Jesus would never be accepted in my church
The blood and dirt on His feet might stain the carpet
But He reaches for the hurting and despises the proud
I think He’d prefer Beale Street to the stained glass crowd
And I know that He can hear me if I cry out loud

I want to be like my Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus!

Not a posterchild for American prosperity, but like my Jesus
You see I’m tired of living for success and popularity
I want to be like my Jesus but I’m not sure what that means to be like You Jesus
Cause You said to live like You, love like You but then You died for me
Can I be like You Jesus?
I want to be like you Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus!

Podcast 229: What is True Worship?

Podcast 229: What is True Worship?

There are three great musts in the Gospel of John.

1. You must be born again – John 3:7.
2. The Son of Man must be lifted up – John 3:14.
3. Those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth – John 4:24.

The first two usually don’t cause us any problems. After all, what Christian would not agree that we must be born again?

But the third one, the spirit and truth one… ah, that’s where it gets a bit more difficult. What does Jesus mean? What is spirit and truth? And why is this one of the musts?

For answers, keep listening.

Podcast 228: A Witness to the Light

Podcast 228: A Witness to the Light

The life and ministry of John the Baptist can be summarized in the opening few verses of John’s gospel. John 1:6-9 states:

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

I’ve got a couple of questions. What is the Light? How does he bear witness of that Light? Is it something that only he can do or can I be that witness also? It looks like there is so much more here than meets the eye.

There is. Keep listening.

Podcast 227: What Do You Think of this Man?

Podcast 227: What Do You Think of this Man?

Jesus summed up the essence of His life in John 12:31-32 where He said:

“Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

The key to preaching and the key to the Christian life is to simply lift up Jesus to our lost and dying world and let Him do the rest. But why is that so difficult? Why do we falter time and time again?

Are you interested in discovering what Jesus has to say about these questions? Good. Then keep listening.

Podcast 226: The Beginning of the Book of John

Podcast 226: The Beginning of the Book of John

John the Apostle and friend of Jesus has a unique purpose in writing his Gospel. He states that purpose in John 20:30-31:

And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

He has a two-fold purpose. One, that you would believe and two, that by believing you would have eternal life in His name.

And this is just the beginning. Want to hear more? Then keep listening.
